Reverse XRVs

In an effort to foster a true partnership with our Chinese colleagues, we are also welcoming Chinese grad students to participate in a reverse extended research visit. Here they will partner with a group on campus and conduct research in the U.S. for an extended amount of time. Chinese students will then get to experience research and University life in Santa Barbara, further strengthening the bond between our partners and our countries. Past Reverse XRVs from Phase-I of the program have proven to be amazing friends and scientists, and are always graciously kind and helpful when our students take their XRVs in China.

Phase-II Reverse XRVs
LEI ZHONG
State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering
East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai
Professor Boping Liu group

XRV dates: September 2010-August 2011
U.S. Advisor: Susannah Scott
Project: well- defined models for the initiation site of the Phillips' catalyst (an ethylene polymerization catalyst based on silica-supported Cr).

Phase-I Reverse XRVs
ZHEN WANG
State Key Laboratory of Catalysis
Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics
Xinhe Bao's group

XRV dates: April 8-28, 2009
U.S. Advisor: Alec Wodtke
Project: Nanoparticle of FeO on Pt surface or Pt on SiC (graphene, nanomash or Si terminated surface) systems; also: beamline experiments at Argonne National Lab

In Zhen's Words:The students from Professor Wodtke group are friendly and give me much help during my stay in UCSB. A memorable barbecue was held befor my leaving. It is a nice opportunity to understand a different culture and make friends.
CHENG YUAN
State Key Laboratory for Molecular Reaction Dynamics
Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics
Xueming Yang's group

XRV dates: May-November 2007
U.S. Advisor: Alec Wodtke
Project: Vibrational energy transfer at surfaces

In Cheng's Words: I spent a cheerful and valuable time in UCSB. Everybody is so glad to give their hands helping others, and indeed helped me a lot. Besides the kindness and generousity, the most impressive part of our lab is the "globalization": members of our group are from all over the world: Asia, Euro, Mideast, Latin America, and of course US. In this international group we have a cheerful atmosphere participating researches with different intelligences and sharing happiness and sadness under different culture backgrounds. We are the typical example of globalization, and the best multicultural center. I wish I can get another chance to work and share my life with these people!
CHUANYAO ZHOU
State Key Laboratory for Molecular Reaction Dynamics
Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics
Xueming Yang's group

XRV dates: August-October 2007
U.S. Advisor: Alec Wodtke
Project: Surface Chemistry on TiO2

In Chuanyao's Words: It was definitely a wonderful period. I tried my best to adapt to a completely differenct culture (The language, the life style, the conception, and so on). The friends I made helped me a lot. The efficiency in the scientific research also left a strong impression on me.
