Dalian China is a beautiful city of about 3-million in the urban
center (considered by its residents to be a "small"
city). It is located fairly far north on the pacific coast, which keeps its
climate quite temperate. Located on a San-Francisco-like peninsula, historically
it is the most important northern port city in China. Over the last twenty years, the city has witnessed a
stunning renovation and is now one of the most modern and vibrant cities in China. The DICP is located just off of the impressive Xinhai Square, the largest square in Asia.
The square is surrounded by many fine restaurants, Karaoke bars, as well as a
beautiful amusement park. Dalian
is just a 1-hour flight (typically at a cost of about $US50.-) from Beijing's Forbidden
City, the Great Wall and the many wonders of the Northern Capital City. Dalian
has terrific shopping, a professional soccer team and all the amenities of a
major international city. The city, while being one of the favorite vacation
spots for native Chinese, has not yet been over-run by foreign tourists and
hence the people of Dalian remain very friendly and helpful to visitors.
