SUMMER PROGRAMS IN SANTA BARBARA

PIRE-ECCI has collaborated with the International Center for Materials Research (ICMR) at UCSB with biennial summer programs here on campus. We have hosted hundreds of foreign and US speakers and participants for a summer school and workshop. Visit the individual event websites below.

August 13-25, 2006: "Techniques of Surface Science and Catalysis"

This was a two-week summer school. Topics that were covered include experimental and theoretical approaches to understanding reactivity at the gas/solid and liquid/solid interface. Since this summer school took place within nine months of the initiation of the PIRE-ECCI, it served as a powerful means to foster PIRE-ECCI participant interactions and stimulate concrete plans for the newly-formed collaborations.

August 10-15, 2008: "Grand Challenges in Electron Chemistry and Catalysis at Interfaces"

This was a one-week workshop wherein leading and new practitioners in heterogeneous catalysis and surface science explored the most important challenges currently faced in designing selective and efficient catalysts. New experimental methods, new computational approaches, new model systems, and new applications of catalysis were discussed through a series of plenary and invited lectures as well as interactive sessions.
