Day one of the workshop started off with opening words from Alec Wodtke, Xueming Yang, and Officials from the Chinese National Natural Science Foundation, the Chinese Ministry of Science, and Bill Chang from the Beijing office of the National Science Foundation.
The contributed talks were given by senior faculty, industry professionals, DICP junior faculty members, and grad students and post-docs regarding their research in catalysis and surface chemistry.
There was a poster session for the student and post-doc contributors without oral presentations, following the delicious buffet dinner put on by the DICP.
Some of the Chinese students treated their friends from overseas to dinner at a Mongolian hot pot restaurant. The dish is prepared by cooking meat and vegetables in a boiling broth in the middle of the table.
